Official Trezor® guide — start, secure, and manage your hardware wallet
Welcome to the official Trezor.io/start getting started guide. This page walks you through each step to initialize your Trezor hardware wallet, install the Trezor Suite application, set a secure PIN, back up your recovery seed, and adopt essential security practices so you keep full control of your crypto assets.
A Trezor device (Model One, Model T, or compatible)
USB cable (included) and a computer or supported mobile device
Stable internet connection to download Trezor Suite and firmware
Pen and the supplied recovery card (or metal backup) to store your seed offline
Tip: Inspect package tamper seals before proceeding. If the box appears opened or altered, contact the vendor or Trezor support.
Step-by-step setup
Connect your Trezor to a computer using the original USB cable.
Visittrezor.io/start and follow the official prompts to download or use Trezor Suite.
Install firmware if prompted — accept only official firmware through the official portal.
Create a PIN on the device; choose a memorable but strong PIN (do not store PIN with your device).
Create wallet — choose “Create new” to generate a fresh wallet if you are new.
Never enter your recovery phrase on a computer or into a web form. The only secure place to enter or confirm the seed is on the Trezor device itself when prompted.
Trezor Suite — manage your wallet
Trezor Suite is the official desktop app (also available as a verified web interface) used for device management, sending/receiving transactions, and advanced settings like passphrase protection and privacy tools. Download Suite directly from trezor.io/start.
During setup you will receive a recovery seed (12–24 words). This seed is the single most important key to restore your funds. Write it down in order, verify it when the device prompts, and store it offline in a secure place (fireproof safe, metal plate, or secure deposit).
If anyone obtains your recovery seed, they can access your funds. Treat it like the master key to your wealth.
Security best practices
Always use the official trezor.io/start portal for downloads and firmware.
Enable a PIN on the device and consider using a passphrase for an added layer (advanced users).
Never store recovery words digitally (photos, cloud, email).
Keep firmware and Suite updated; revoke unused API keys or integrations.
Prefer hardware backups (metal seed plates) for long term storage.
Troubleshooting
Device not detected: try another USB cable or port, or reinstall Trezor Bridge if prompted.
Firmware error: run the official update from trezor.io/start and follow on-screen device instructions.
2FA/transaction issues: ensure Suite is up to date; contact Trezor support for help with critical failures.
